Not linking is no protection
I'm currently (re-)building the odahoda.de website. The work-in-progress version is hosted on our local 'server' with a public name (using DynDNS). Along the way I stumbled over a small rendering problem with Opera. I built a minimal page illustrating the bug, placed it in the new site's root folder and posted a link on the css-discuss mailing list.
Just now I threw a quick look at the access_log of our local apache. It was no suprise to see that shortly after posting search bots came along, indexing the page with the testcase: both googlebot and Ask Jeeves found their way to our little silver box, standing right beside me. But the testcase page didn't contain any links, so googlebot just went away after visiting this single page. But Ask Jeeves seems to visits / right after robots.txt and before visiting the referenced page - and starting from / all other pages...
So now the page is already indexed by Ask Jeeves (although I was not able to find a match) - before it is made public ;)
